Recommending Chicago Jerseys
I wanted to write an article for you guys about my recommendations on what Chicago team jerseys you should be buying in 2020. I know that jerseys are expensive, so I wanted to give you my opinion on which teams and specifically which players are worth the investment. I know we all have bought a jersey and then two years from then the player either stinks or is gone from your favorite team, so hopefully this can help you make a good decision on your jersey of choice this time.
So for this I am going to go through each of the five major Chicago sports teams, and at the end will give you my recommendation for each team on who’s jersey you should be spending your money on.
The Bears:
To start off let's look at the Chicago Bears. When it comes to the Bears in 2020 you will get mixed reactions with some people thinking they will be a playoff team and some thinking they will be far from that. This makes it tricky because you would like to not spend your money on an expensive jersey and then have the team have a poor season.
Offensively the Bears don’t have a great selection of players with jerseys to buy in my opinion. The best player on offense by far is Allen Robinson, who I love as a player but he also doesn’t have a long term contract and could possibly be on a new team after next year. Also with Trubisky and Foles battling for the starting job, I wouldn’t recommend either of them because you definitely don’t want to be wearing the backup QB’s jersey.
Personally if you are going to buy a Bears jersey, I think it has to be one of the defensive players. Eddie Jackson is as exciting as a player can be on the defensive side, and he also is young and locked into a contract with the team for the foreseeable future.
But, in the end I think the one player who you should be looking the most at is Khalil Mack. Mack has the most star power on the team, and is widely considered as one of the best players in the whole NFL. Barring something unforeseen, I can’t see you regretting picking him as the player for your new Chicago Bears jersey.
Recommendation: Khalil Mack #52 jersey
The Bulls:
While the Bulls have not been very good as of the last few years, they still have a very clean jersey and basketball jerseys seem to be in style.
When it comes to the current Bulls team, the players I would be looking at is the young up and coming players. Those players include Zach Lavine, Coby White, Lauri Markkanen, and Wendell Carter Jr. Out of those guys, Zach Lavine so far has been the closest to becoming a star in the league. Also with his high flying ability he is a fan favorite and loved by NBA fans from all over the country. When it comes to the other three, I would probably be hesitant on purchasing a jersey until they show they can live up to some of their great potentials.
Also with the Bulls comes great history. You can never go wrong with a Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, or Dennis Rodman jersey. Especially with the Jordan documentary releasing earlier this year, Michael Jordan is very much in style right now (not that he ever wasn’t).
Recommendation: Current- Zach Lavine #8 jersey, Legend- Michael Jordan #23 jersey
The Cubs:
When it comes to the Cubs they have been the only consistently good Chicago team over the last five years, so you are sure to see many Cubs jerseys all over the city and suburbs.
As a team the Cubs do have a good amount of choices to choose from. For me it would have to be one of the guys from the World Series Championship, so one of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javy Baez, or Jon Lester.
When it comes to Rizzo you can’t go wrong, he is the heart and soul of the Cubs and also one of the best overall people in all of sports. He will go down as a Cub all-time great and one of the most loved Cubs ever.
Bryant also will go down in Cubs history and is a great player, but the problem is that his contract expires after next season so we don’t know how much longer he will be playing in Wrigley Field.
Javy Baez is maybe the most exciting player in baseball, and as we see on a day to day basis does things on a baseball field that many others simply can’t do. When it comes to making the game fun, Javy is your guy which has made him such a fan favorite in Chicago.
Lastly Lester, who is another Cubs legend because of the World Series. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend him is because as a pitcher he only plays every 5 days so you only have a slight chance of going to a game at Wrigley where he pitches.
Recommendation: Anthony Rizzo #44 jersey
The Sox:
With the Sox up and coming talent, it could be a good time to get a jersey.
The first two candidates that came to mind for me were Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada.
For Anderson, He had a breakout 2019 season winning the AL batting title. He also became a fan favorite in 2019, but my only reason to be cautious would be that before last season he really struggled in his first 3 seasons. So I might wait until he proves it wasn’t a fluke.
When it comes to Yoan Moncada, I think he has all the potential to be a star in the MLB for a while. I believe he both has the most potential and highest floor out of anybody on the Sox which makes him both a good pick for a jersey and a safe one at the same time.
Recommendation: Yoan Moncada #10 jersey
The Blackhawks:
When it comes to the Hawks, they are definitely past the times of competing for championships on a yearly basis. At the same time though they still have the two stars from those championship teams, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.
Toews and Kane are Hawks greats and have brought 3 championships to the city of Chicago. Because of this you can’t really go wrong with either, but in my opinion Kane is still a superstar in the league today while Toews is not. Because of this if I was buying a jersey I’d probably go Kane, but like I said you can’t go wrong either way.
Recommendation: Patrick Kane #88 jersey
